It is our intention to make Barn Owls accessible to children and families from all sectors of the local community. We aim to ensure that all sections of our community have access to the setting through open, fair and clearly communicated procedures.
We ensure that the existence of our setting is widely advertised in places accessible to all sections of the community. We ensure that the information about our setting is accessible and provided in written and spoke form.
We describe our setting and its practices in terms that welcomes both fathers and mothers, other relations and other carers, including childminders.
Applying for a place does not automatically guarantee acceptance. Barn Owls is a small setting offering high quality care and development with highly qualified staff. The child/staff ratio is such that we can provide each individual child the experiences and challenges expected in preparation for school.
Barn Owls admits children from the age of 2 years, we ensure the setting maintains permissible child/adult ratios at all times.
The minimum starting age for admission is 2 years old. Due to the size and unique character of the provision a minimum of 4 half day sessions or 2 full day/school days per week are required, or a mix of each. Applications for less than 4 half day sessions or 2 full day/school days will not be considered.
Barn Owls is open 50 weeks of the year, full time, 0830 – 1730. We close only for 2 weeks at Christmas mirroring the school holiday weeks.
Barn Owls will invoice monthly in advance. Parents or carers are responsible for payment for any meals provided and for any additional sessions/hours taken outside of funded sessions. We request either cash or bank transfer for these payments, no cheques. Parents may pay by Tax Free Childcare or schemes such as child vouchers such as Allsave, Computershare, Fideliti EdenRed etc subject to conditions. These will need to be paid monthly in advance and placed into the Barn Owls bank account ensuring that the funds are available before or on the beginning of each month. If any funds are not cleared within 7 days of invoice date Barn Owls Pre-School will request immediate cash payment for fees due and reserve the right to terminate the booked sessions requiring payment in full for those booked sessions for the remaining term and may refuse admission.
Refunds will NOT be given for non-attendance (eg sickness, holidays, cancelling booked sessions etc)
Those parents whose children are entitled to state ‘nursery funding’ will be required to complete the necessary documentation and where applicable apply for eligibility codes before funding can be obtained. If ‘funding forms’ are not promptly returned and completed as inducated funding CAN NOT be claimed and therefore cash/bank transfer payment will be required before the sessions are taken. Funding is currently available for all children aged 3 or 4, but only from the term after which he/she turns 3. (ie 3rd birthday between 1st Apr and 31st Aug funding commences from the Autumn term). If your child is already receiving funding and joins Barn Owls mid way through a term you will be asked to settle the full invoices until such a time when funding can be received at the start of the half terms.
The state provides universally available 570 hours of funded child care. This may be taken as 15 hours per week for 38 weeks (term time) of the year. Or 11 hours “stretched” across 50 weeks. Additionally, a further 15 hours per week of funding is available for those who are eligible, This is referred to as “30 hours funding”. Barn Owls has limited 30 hours places available and cannot guarantee availability above the universal 15 hours.
Meals & Snacks
Barn Owls will provide lunch and tea for an extra charge, which is not covered by funding. Payment will need to be made monthly in advance. All other snacks & drinks during the session will be provided by Barn Owls free of charge. Barn Owls operates a policy of eating together, staff and children, we are a small setting and incorporate food consumption as part of the social development.
